Harounian Rugs International moves to larger High Point showroom

New York - Harounian Rugs International (HRI), manufacturer and importer for over 50 years of fine handmade programmed area rugs, has announced a move to a new, larger showroom space (H-407) 4th floor in the Hamilton wing of the IHFC building.

In making the announcement, Lee Harounian, said the move will be completed in time for the upcoming High Point Market, April 22 - April 26 2017.

"When we got the opportunity to move our showroom to a space that was larger and has a much better exposure, on a high traffic Hamilton floor....we did not hesitate to make the move" said Harounian.

Greg Jordt, Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing, said that the new showroom will provide tremendous exposure to the company's new expanding collections of transitional looks, which really has been our growth category over the past two years. "We know we are on trend, based on the success of our 2016 color promotions, 'We've Got the Blues' and 'We have more than 50 Shades of Grey'." Transition looks will still be a strong design trend at the High Point Market. With texture being important with Blues and Greys continuing to be the most popular colors.

"For the past two years, HRI has experienced double-digit increases at both Summer and Winter Markets, and by making this move we expect to capitalize on that trend by greatly increasing our visibility to the Market traffic of our customer: Design Firms, High End Furniture Stores and Rug Specialty Stores as well as 'to the trade showrooms'," Jordt said.

HRI takes top honors during the January Atlanta Market

HRI received 2016 America's Magnificent Carpet Award. A panel of Rug Industry judges selected Bristol in the Hand knotted category of $50.00 to $100.00 per sq ft.

This very special rug was designed and hand knotted in India by a very dedicated team of HRI designers and master weavers. The rug is constructed of 100% finely spun New Zealand wool and pure silk, that creates a glowing patina with an appearance of antiquity. While the design is traditional, the colors were taken from today's newest trending color palette. The design is created through the use of soft subtle shades of 'rose quartz' (Panton's 2016 color of the year) that is perfectly balanced by a field color of a misty sage. This handmade rug truly represents the finest in the blending of quality, design and color for 2016.

Also during the Atlanta Rug Market HRI received the Editors Choice Award from Home Accents Today. This award is given out by the HAT editors to only five of the most innovative and trend setting products offered at the Market. HRI's Mastercraft was one of the collections chosen:

The look and the feel of fine antique Persian masterpieces has been recreated in the Mastercraft collection. This quality is totally new to the market. From Turkey, this machine made is a crosswoven Wilton construction of a very dense polyester pile. Polyester is not on soil resistant but wears great and is the only synthetic fiber that reflects color most like a fine wool.  These rugs capture the sophistication and refinement of the classical 11th century Safavid court carpets, all woven in stunning jewel-toned colors.  The actual pieces duplicated are from the middle of the 19th century, woven by master weavers such as Kurban Dai and Faradji in Tabriz.

HRI Relocates to 5th Floor AmericasMart Showroom

(As seen in rugnews.com, 06.01.15)

NEW YORK - Harounian Rugs International (HRI) has announced it will relocate into a new AmericasMart showroom in time for the the upcoming Atlanta International Rug Market. One of the most senior rug tenants at AmericasMart, HRI will be permanently located on the 5th floor, space 5-C-10.

"The timing of this opportunity is perfect. We are not only able to move to the re-merchandised fifth floor but also increase the size of our showroom. All this is happening after one of our best Atlanta Markets in January due to our extremely diversified collections of fine hand knotted and handmade rugs in a variety of designs and color ways."

"Our customers and designers can capitalize on HRI's 50-plus years of experience in producing and marketing uniquely saleable production rugs in the market place. HRI has chosen to make and stay with better and finer quality hand knotted and handmade rugs in all price point categories," said Lee Harounian, HRI principal.

"Our location on the 5th floor is fantastic. A new and larger showroom will allow us to better display and serve our new expanded hand knotted collections from the successful, "We've got the Blues" and 'Rustic-Luxe' campaigns," added Greg Jordt, executive vice president of sales and market for HRI.

According to Jordt, HRI has a long-standing commitment to design and color, as well as to quality and supervision of the company's original productions. "We are also committed to efficient service and delivery of our ageless rugs. The innovations that the market has come to expect from HRI are a direct result of our designers' efforts to boldly explore new design concepts while intelligently reacting to current decorative trends and needs. HRI designs, manufactures, and markets an unsurpassed value-driven selection of area rugs," Jordt said.

HRI's staffed offices and factories in New York in the USA, New Deli, India, Lahore, Pakistan, Beijing China, and Kathmandu in Nepal integrate the design, construction, logistics, and marketing of the company's award winning and comprehensive collections of tailored and programmed carpets and rugs. The new HRI showroom 5-C-10 in AmericasMart Building one will be open during the Atlanta Rug Market July 8 to 11, 2015 and all future markets.

HRI Named a Trailblazer for Award-Winning Elite Collection

NEW YORK -- The new Elite collection by Harounian Rugs International (HRI), which was previewed to retailers and designers here in September, has received a Trailblazer Award for product uniqueness. The line will be expanded to include additional designs and colorways at the company's AmericasMart showroom, Space 6-A-1 in Atlanta during the International Area Rug Market in January.

HRI was selected for the HFN magazine award for its strong commitment to innovation and creativity as well as merchandising strategies and marketing. The Elite collection, which is hand-knotted of wool in India with a suggested retail of $2,999 for the 6x9 size, has several distinctive qualities that earned the award according to Greg Jordt, executive vice president, sales and marketing of HRI.

"This is a new look you will not see anywhere [else]; anyone who does handmade business wants this rug," Jordt said, noting that response has been extremely positive and HRI is already selling into initial production. The line has a special white finishing wash to give a white cast over the entire rug, and rugs are sheared very low for a vintage look that appeals to high end designers.

The Atlanta International Area Rug Market will take place January 7 to 10 at AmericasMart.

A class room in progress at Child Care Foundation school Dhaban Kalan District Sheikhu Pura.

"From the President's Desk" - ORM - Summer 1999

Dear Reader,

As President of the Oriental Rug Importers Association, I take great pride in making the following announcement:

On May 25, 1999, at the General Membership Meeting of the ORIA, the membership overwhelmingly approved Association sponsorship of a pilot school for children ages 6 to 10 in Sheikhu Pura-Attoct, villages in the outskirts of Lahore, Pakistan, containing one of the highest concentrations of carpet weaving factories in Pakistan. By approving this sponsorship, the ORIA committed itself to developing and maintaining the school through the Child Care Foundation (CCF), a non-profit organization, for a period of three (3) years, during the course of which we shall open additional schools, day-care centers and other facilities. At the same meeting, ORIA members further endorsed the Association’s long-term commitment to similar ongoing programs for the establishment of other schools in rug weaving countries through organizations similar to CCF.

In addition to this important group effort, individual member companies of the ORIA have unilaterally established schools, hospitals, day-care centers, and other facilities in Pakistan and India on their own initiative. The Association is planning similar sponsorship programs in India, conditions permitting. Collectively, those efforts serve as examples of what can and should be done by our industry to ameliorate the conditions of children in the poorest areas of rug weaving countries.

There is no better way to combat the problem of illegal child labor than to attack the underlying problem of poverty and lack of education. Children who work at the looms with their parents do so out of economic necessity. Schools, day-care centers and hospitals, established at a reasonable or nominal cost, are an important part of the solution.

This ground-breaking initiative, which will serve as a pilot example for many more schools to come, is only the beginning. This initiative will set us on a course that should dramatically improve conditions and ultimately eliminate illegal child labor. Its importance cannot be overstated. I am extremely proud to be part of this initiative-which involved the efforts of many individuals over many years- and I am particularly proud of the ORIA’s continued dedication to providing a better way of life for needy families and children in rug-weaving areas across the globe.

As for us, in order to achieve all of our goals and to increase productivity, we need your input and your participation. A single individual has never and could never represent the best thinking of the age.

Closer to home, our members are also readying themselves for what promises to be one of the most exciting summer markets ever-International Area Rug Market at Americas Mart, Atlanta. We invite you to join us there, July 15-18.

Thanking You,

Sincerely

David Harounian
President
Oriental Rug Importers Association, Inc.
